Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of an athletic scholarship to his family with service in the local community. At first, he was raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon, who lived on their Eufala farm. He was the smallest of nine children. He played second in football and was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. In his three years as the team's starter, Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and won two national championships. Selmon was granted a 3rd scholarship in 1975. He was also named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Fourth-year service in college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After college he settled in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were all-pro three times before launching a professional career. In 1988, he was appointed an account relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following associations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder Lee Roy was named one of the most distinguished young men across the United States in 1982 by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds in his college days. He played for the 1975 team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as director of athletics as an associate. The College Football Hall of Fame named him in 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented their Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
